Why Project Hygiene?

THERE IS A NEED

43% of children in the U.S. live in low-income households and 21% live in poverty. These living situations can impede children’s ability to learn and contribute to social, emotional, and behavioral problems.

YOUTH ARE AT RISK

Reports of bullying are highest for middle schools (28%), followed by high schools (16%), combined schools (12%), and primary schools (9%).

PERSISTENT BULLYING IS IMPACTFUL

Can lead to or worsen feelings of isolation, rejection, exclusion, and despair, as well as depression and anxiety,

which can contribute to suicidal behavior.

WE HAVE THE POWER

TO HELP

Recommended approaches to preventing bullying include connecting youth to caring adults and activities and creating protective community environments.
